Useful information in a recent Rootsweb newsletter: that 1901 census takers often didn't put the actual birthplace for a person, but just the county town! In previous census returns it has been possible to rely on the fact that a census will tell you where someone was actually born. It seems as though that may not be the case for the 1901 census... beware!
I have also found that the readers for several sites have misread the census returns. I I was perplexed when I saw that some ancesters were born in Lowston, but soon realised on looking at the original image that it was a mis-reading for London.
