George Dickins was one son of many children. According to the History of Church Preen, his father was married twice, but we are struggling to find either marriage.
George was baptised 11 May 1824 at Trysull, and the family were living at Woodford Grange.
George seems to have a falling out with his family early on. I don't know what the falling out was about, but my great-aunt, Marie Spivey, told me that her grandfather had told her that his father had once returned to Trysull intending to see whoever was left at the family house of Woodford Grange. He had had a drink in the pub in the village, lost his nerve and never returned.
He would have found Robert Archibald Dickins, his brother, together with his wife and son, although I believe that by the time Robert Archibald died in 1893 he had been predeceased by both wife and son.
Whatever the reason, by 1841 George Dickins, aged 17, doesn't seem to be at home with the rest of the family for the Census. George Dickins worked in the Post Office, and by 1850 was living in Camden, and had married Charlotte Eleanor Robey, daughter of John Walton Robey, a builder and architect, at St Pancras Church, St Pancras. They married on November 24, 1850.
They had two known children:
George Robey Dickins, b 1850
Herbert Robey Dickins, b1854
By 1861 they were living in Chester, where they had a general servant living with them. They later appear to have returned to London.
